Biography
Funeral services for Joseph H. Katura, age 76 a resident of the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and formerly of Ford Street will be held Friday (January 29, 2010) at 3:15pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ogdensburg with Rev. Robert Longbottom officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam. Arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Calling hours will be held prior to the funeral from 2:00 – 3:00pm at the funeral home. Mr. Katura passed away on January 28, 2010 at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
Surviving are five daughters Joanne & Timothy Petrie of Ogdensburg, Lucinda Sharlow of Waddington, Katrina Katura of Massena, Stephanie Katura of Ogdensburg & Diane Clinton of MO; Grandchildren Justin Katura, Tiffany & Timmilyn Petrie, Tim Petrie Jr; Great-Grandchildren Calito Petrie & Trent Katura; long time companion Linda Sauve of Ogdensburg,; friends Doug & Wendy Dishaw and their children Douglas III, Benjamin & Austin and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
His wife Margaret Grandy and several brothers and sisters predeceased him.
Joseph was born on January 2, 1934 in Potsdam, NY a son of William & Hazel (Dennis) Katura. His working career consisted of logging, cemetery maintenance at Evergreen Cemetery in Canton, Standard Shade Roller, Rochester Button Factory & Cooper’s Decorations in Syracuse as a laborer.
He enjoyed camping, playing cards, spending time in nature and watching Animal Planet. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the SPCA; 6718 State Hwy 68; Ogdensburg, NY 13669.
