Biography
Funeral services for Rev. Clark E. Gilmour age 84 of 422 State Street in Ogdensburg, will be held on Saturday (Feb 27, 2010) at 1:00pm at the Galilee United Methodist Church with Mr. Thomas A. Nichols officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pine Hill Cemetery in Eel Weir.
Calling hours will be held on Friday evening from 6-8PM at the Fox and Murray Funeral Home. Rev. Gilmour passed away at his home on Thursday (Feb 25, 2010) with his wife by his side.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Mildred Gilmour, a son Mark Gilmour & his wife Kim of Albany, NY; two daughters Jane Ann Baker & her husband Charles of Jacksonville, NC and Lorrie Canciller of Durham, NC; six grandchildren Steven Baker & his wife Kim, Sarah Baker, Samuel Baker, Zachary Canciller, Emily Gilmour and Shannon Gilmour; three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother Rev. A. Alan Gilmour and a sister Ila (Gilmour) Livingston.
Rev. Gilmour was born on June 19, 1925 in Ogdensburg, NY a son of Arthur and Ella Gilmour. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and began working on the family farm. He was a 4-H leader and was elected the youth President of Northern New York Conference, and traveled to Grand Rapids and California as a youth representative.
On September 28, 1950 he was married to Mildred W. Wright the daughter of Earl and Grace (Livingston) Wright. In 1952 he moved to Houghton College to study for the Ministry. Prior to graduation, he was a student pastor in Bliss, NY.
He graduated from Alfred Seminary on June 10, 1962 and was ordained by Bishop W. Ralph Ward at the Genesee Annual Conference with Elder’s Orders in Snyder, NY later that same day.
Besides pastoring churches in Western, NY, Johnsonburg, Angelica, Limestone-Alleghany and Fillmore-Hume, he was transferred to Northern New York Conference and served at Tupper Lake, Long Lake, Mohawk, St. Lawrence Parish and Copenhagen-Rodman.
He has been a junior camp counselor at both Watson and Aldersgate, and a past president of the Olean District Ministerial Association. After 29 years in the Ministry, Rev. Clark and Mildred returned to their home on Route 37and did some pulpit supply before moving into the city. He and his wife attended their home church at Galilee.
Rev. Gilmour enjoyed gardening and lawn work in his spare time. Memorial contributions have been requested to the Galilee United Methodist Church.
