Biography
Funeral services for Simeon “Al” Palmer age 72 of Rensselaer Falls, will be held on Saturday (March 6, 2010) at 2:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Margaret Hance officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Rensselaer Falls Cemetery.
Calling hours will also be held on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of the service. Albert passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday (March 2, 2010) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
Surviving is his wife of 38 years Nettie E. Palmer; three daughters Carol Garvey & her husband Harry of Madrid, Cathy Parker & her husband David of Canton, Connie McAllister & her husband Randy of Rensselaer Falls, two sons Bruce Donnelly of Heuvelton, and James Donnelly & his wife Angie of Randolph, NJ; four brothers Charles Palmer & his wife Pat, Lynn Palmer & his wife Connie, Claude Palmer & his wife Janet & Harold Palmer & his wife Gail all of Rensselaer Falls; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by a son David Palmer in 1989.
Albert was born on February 3, 1938 in Ogdensburg, NY, a son of the late Simeon & Sara (Rayburn) Palmer. He graduated from Canton Central School and married Judy Poore which later ended in divorce. On August 28, 1971 he married Nettie Eileen Donnelly at the Rensselaer Falls Methodist Church, with Rev. Greenfield celebrating their marriage.
He was employed by Herb Wainwright for a period, and then became employed with The Augsbury Corporation until 1982, when he began working for Griffith Oil until his retirement in 2000.
He was a 50+ year member of the Rensselaer Falls Fire Department, and a 45 year member of the Rensselaer Falls Masonic Fellowship Lodge # 749 which later merged with the St. Lawrence Fellowship Lodge # 111.
He enjoyed hunting, riding his scooter with his brothers and friends, traveling with his loving wife Nettie, spending time with his children, grandchildren and his dog Jenny and finding treasures at local garage and antique sales.
