Biography

Funeral services for Mr. Jack R. Peabody, 80 a resident of the United Helpers Nursing Home and formerly of Route 37 Ogdensburg, will be held on Thursday at 2:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

There will be no public calling hours. Mr. Peabody passed away on Saturday (March 6, 2010) at the United Helpers Nursing Home.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years Donna Peabody of Heuvelton; a daughter Jennifer Peabody; a son David Peabody both of Ogdensburg; three grandchildren Heather Peabody of Central Square, NY, Dylan Peabody of Heuvelton and Tori Peabody of Ogdensburg. Mr. Peabody was born on January 8, 1930 in Syracuse, NY a son of Raymond & Margaret Peabody. In 1950 he enlisted in the US Marine Corp until 1953 when he received his honorable discharge holding rank of Sergeant in rifle instruction. Jack continued his education at the University of Buffalo and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. In 1970 he again returned to college, earning a Master’s Degree from SUNY Albany in Public Administration and a second Masters Degree from St. Lawrence University in Education. He married Donna Bennett on January 12, 1952 in Buffalo, NY.

Mr. Peabody began his working career at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center and then transferred to the Department of Mental Hygiene in Albany where he worked for several years. In 1972, the couple relocated to Ogdensburg where he began his career at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center as the Director of Rehabilitation. Mr. Peabody retired in 1989. After retiring he continued his career as a Registered Occupational Therapist specializing with children. He was a past member of the Ogdensburg Rotary and Kenmore Masonic Lodge.

He enjoyed daily rounds of golf, fishing on the St. Lawrence, and spending time with his adoring grandchildren.
